Abeeha Alam

Abeeha Alam is a biology and mathematics teacher at Notre Dame Academy.  Though she began teaching at the high school in 2013, Ms. Alam is no stranger to the beautiful campus on Grymes Hill. “I am a proud alumna of NDA, having attended from kindergarten to twelfth grade. I wish to bring my love of learning to my students and instill in them a solid work ethic.  It was at Notre Dame Academy where I found my passion for mathematics and science.”

Ms. Alam earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences with a concentration in Biomedical Engineering from the New York Institute of Technology.  A leadership opportunity in her undergraduate studies led her to find another passion: teaching. She earned a Master of Science degree in Adolescent Education with a concentration in Biology from CUNY College of Staten Island and holds New York State teaching certification for Biology grades 7-12. 

She endeavors to bring inquiry-based techniques to her classroom to encourage students to think critically and hone their problem-solving skills.  Having completed her graduate research on the effects of kinesthetic and hands-on activities in the classroom, Ms. Alam believes it is critical to incorporate various teaching methods to address the different learning styles of her students. She is also a member of the National Science Teaching Association.   

Ms. Alam was involved in student life while at Notre Dame Academy and continues to be involved in school activities as a faculty member. She previously moderated Math Club and moderates Robotics Club alongside Dr. Elizabeth Howell.  Ms.Alam participates in citizen science projects and is currently working with other citizen scientists to assist astronomers in the United Kingdom to classify galaxies. She is also assisting a research group at the Francis Crick Institute in London to segment and analyze animal cell images.
