Notre Dame Academy: The Gators' Giavanna Comerford set a freshman Island record in her first high school race at the 11th Annual Villa Bears Running Classic last Saturday.
Comerford finished the race in 9:27.49, besting the mark of her teammate Sierra Dinneen (9:28.7 in 2016).
"It was no surprise to me because of her consistent training," said NDA coach Al Garcia. "She's a very mature and dedicated student-athlete."
The freshman team finished fifth overall and first among Island schools, while the varsity finished sixth overall and first among Island schools.
